BooksCheck Start with a free month

For business owners · 5–50 employees

Month-end shouldn’t mean a weekend inside QuickBooks.

You run the business; the books run behind. BooksCheck reviews them every month and hands you one page by the 7th — what came in, what went out, what looks off, and who still owes you — with every number checked by a human before it ships.

Start with a free month

First month free · Founding rate locked for 12 months · Month-to-month

Your overdue invoices come back listed, with a polite reminder already drafted for each one. You read it, you send it — we never contact your customers and never touch your money.

The problem

The shoebox is not a system

It’s the last Sunday of the month. The receipts are in a drawer, the card feed is a wall of uncategorized charges, and somewhere in there is a $600 charge you don’t recognize and an invoice from six weeks ago that nobody followed up. You’ll get to it next month. That’s what last month said too. The pattern is the industry’s most-cited one: “Inconsistent, sporadic recordkeeping is the most-cited bookkeeping error for small businesses.” — Focus CPA, via EIN News, September 15, 2026

The full fix — a bookkeeping service that keeps your books for you — is a real option, at a real price. BooksCheck is the smaller step: keep doing what you’re doing, and get a trained review of it every month, before small messes become tax-season problems.

You, at month-endThe records get reviewed when an evening frees up — which is how things slip a month, then a quarter$0 + your evenings
Bench Bookkeeping LightA bookkeeper keeps your books on Bench’s own platform (revenue up to $250K/yr)from $199/mo
QuickBooks Experts Full-ServiceA dedicated bookkeeper keeps your books inside QuickBooksfrom $300/mo

How it works

Set up once. Then it’s just the 7th.

1

Grant read-only access

Sign a plain-language engagement letter, then invite us as a reports-only user in QuickBooks Online and connect Stripe read-only. Never your password — and revocable anytime.

2

We pull the month

Transactions, P&L, A/R aging, invoice status. Whatever is missing gets flagged, not guessed at.

3

Draft, then the human gate

Drafted with AI assistance, then verified by a person — every number tied to its source report, every flag checked, anything tax-shaped rewritten as a flag for your CPA.

4

One page lands by the 7th

Two minutes to read. The overdue list and its drafted reminders are the part most owners act on first.

The deliverable

Read the sample like it’s yours

A fictional café’s month, in the exact format your one-pager uses — labeled a sample because it is one. Notice what’s on it: the overdue invoice with its amount and age, the odd charge with a plain-English reason to look twice. That’s the page that lands in your inbox on the 7th, built from your real numbers.

The offer

Built around the two things owners actually open

Who owes you money, and what looks off. Everything else on the page exists to make those two answers trustworthy.

Every month, you receive

  • Overdue-invoice list — who owes you, how much, how late — with a payment reminder drafted for each. You send them
  • Flagged odd expenses — unusual spikes, uncategorized charges, duplicates, personal expenses mixed in — each explained in plain English
  • The one-pager — P&L summary and cash-flow summary for the month, two minutes to read
  • Flags for your CPA — anything that smells like a tax question, written up as a question for your CPA, never answered by us
  • On Plus: trend notes and reminder drafts twice a month — mid-month and month-end, so invoices don’t age quietly
  • On Complete: a quarterly roll-up and receipt chasing until missing paperwork is resolved

What we never do

  • Prepare or file taxes, or advise on them
  • Decide what you should deduct
  • Run payroll, or represent you to the IRS
  • Make payments or move your money, in any way
  • Ask for your password, or log in as you
  • Contact your customers — reminders are drafts; you send them

Anything that looks like a tax question goes to your CPA — and we make their job cheaper by handing them clean, current books.

The checkable details

Dates and limits, before you commit

Owners don’t need a pitch. They need to know when it lands and where it stops.

Timelines

  • One-pager delivered by the 7th of every month — or the month is free
  • Email questions answered within 24 hours (same-day on Complete, business hours)
  • Plus reminder drafts land mid-month and month-end
  • Quarterly roll-up by the 10th after quarter-end (Complete)

What you receive

  • One page per month: P&L summary, cash-flow summary, flagged anomalies with explanations, overdue-invoice list with drafted reminders, flags-for-your-CPA section
  • Plus: trend notes (3–5 lines), top 10 flags, a 4-sentence check-in email
  • Complete: quarterly roll-up, receipt chasing, same-day support in business hours

Limits, plainly

A review reads the records you have. It is not an examination of every transaction, and it doesn’t promise to catch every error — every number on the page is tied to a source report and human-checked, and if a figure can’t be verified, it doesn’t ship. Catch-up beyond 3 months of unreconciled history is out of scope at every tier (quoted separately as a one-time project, minimum $150, or referred out).

What it runs on

Your QuickBooks Online, via a reports-only invite you control, and your Stripe, via a read-only connection. Working files live in encrypted cloud folders; your data is never sold or shared. No new software to learn — we work inside what you already keep.

What we are not

A review service — not bookkeeping, not tax preparation, not tax advice. We never file anything, never decide a deduction, and never touch client funds. That boundary is the product’s safety feature, not fine print.

Who stands behind it

Ruben “Chitico” Olaverria, Chicago, IL. He runs the verification pass and signs off every one-pager personally — the sign-off is logged per client, per month. Reach him at chiticohq+bookscheck@zohomail.com. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see your card number.

Delivered by the 7th — or that month is free

Every one-pager passes a human verification pass before it ships. If that pass can’t finish by the 7th, we tell you the truth and it arrives the next day — and if we miss the 7th, that month costs you nothing — no form, no call, nothing to claim. Payments are processed by Stripe — we never see your card number.

Founding rate — locked for 12 months. Rate reviews happen once a year, with 30 days’ notice. First month free, because I can’t show you what it’s worth until I’ve seen your books. — Chitico Month-to-month after that: cancel anytime with 30 days’ notice and a prorated final month. No onboarding fee during the founding period. Your QuickBooks subscription stays yours — BooksCheck never resells it.

Questions

What owners ask first

Do I need to be on QuickBooks?

Yes — the review runs on QuickBooks Online plus Stripe, with read-only access. That’s the honest limit of the service today: if your books live somewhere else, BooksCheck isn’t the tool yet.

My books are a mess. Where do we start?

With the current month — that’s what the review covers. If you’re more than 3 months behind on unreconciled history, that catch-up isn’t part of any tier: it’s quoted separately as a one-time project (minimum $150, paid up front) or referred out to a bookkeeper. We’ll tell you which one you need before you pay anything.

Who sends the payment reminders — you or me?

You do. We draft each reminder — right customer, right amount, right invoice — and you send it from your own inbox. We never contact your customers, and we can’t move money: our access is read-only.

What if a number on my one-pager is wrong?

Every number is tied to a source report and checked by a human before delivery, and the sign-off is logged. If you spot anything that doesn’t match your records, reply to the email — it gets re-checked against the source and corrected in writing.

Will you talk to my CPA?

Every one-pager carries a “flags for your CPA” section, written to be forwarded. Your CPA gets clean, current books and a short list of questions — instead of a shoebox in January.

How do I cancel?

By email. 30 days’ notice, and the final month is prorated. While you’re subscribed, your founding rate stays locked for 12 months; reviews happen once a year with 30 days’ notice.

BooksCheck

Your first one-pager is free. The second one is the habit.

Grant read-only access once, and by the 7th you’ll know what came in, what went out, what looks off, and who owes you.
